Homecoming
2001 - Just Different!
|
As
I sit here and write about Homecoming I still can't stop thinking
about September 11. As a matter of fact, no one who attending Homecoming
could think or talk about anything else either. I expected the numbers
to be lower this year since we put so much effort over the past
couple of years, but nothing prepared me for what to expect after
9/11. Over
Seventy-five Brothers did attend and I'm sure more would have except
travel at that time was considered dangerous or at best, not highly
recommended. It was a different group this year with faces we had
not seen before, mixed with older more recognizable ones from the
past, like Brother Ragle 1978, the Cox Brothers, Craft, Cake-Knife
and list of others. We still missed some of the local boys who did
not attend like, Tom Bay 82, Rick Johnson 82, Tony Mamone '73 and
Doc Covey. Either I made an error and didn't call (I can't believe
he would not have been there) but I did not see Doc Covey the whole
weekend. I think this was the first time in my life as a Sig Tau
I did not have weed soup for Homecoming. Doc, I promise to call
and see what happened. I know you were missed. All in all new everyone
had a fantastic weekend.

I
cannot believe I am still writing about this house. It is in really
bad shape. Poor Patricia Ball '72 had to see how the plumbing didn't
work the first day. I asked Kevin Kimble '75 and Tony Mamone '73
for some ideas. An idea I had, was to use the existing roof and
turn the inside into one big meeting room with a House Manager..
Not sure how cost effective this would be since we do not have Alumni
Dues coming in regularly. Oh well, the dream I had of getting brothers
into a new place by last summer is faded. We also talked about clearing
the whole lot and making one large Pavilion. This is option two.
Either way, this is going to take some time. Time at least is on
our side. We also have Sig Tau mountain to look at. As we speak
a road is being cut to the top and by next homecoming will be paved
for all to look at. Make plans now for Homecoming 2002, October
12th. This will be a blowout year. Who knows, maybe we will party
on the hill. See everyone soon.
